1999 Buick Invitational - Buick Century Players Challenge

The Buick Century Players Challenge took place on the South Course at 2pm on Tuesday, February 9th. Players participating were: Phil Mickelson, Scott Simpson, Chip Beck, Peter Jacobsen, and Craig Stadler. The event was emceed by Gary Mc Cord.

The format covered five golf skills, given each player 5 points to 1 point per skill, according to how they finish. The skills were:

  • Long Iron (174 yards out) won by Peter Jacobsen.

  • Pitch Over Water (65 yard pitch over Devlin's Billabong) won by Peter Jacobsen.

  • Bunker Shot from green side, 25 feet away, won by Stadler.

  • Long Putt "Hospitality Chip" (pitch from within the Buick Hospitality tent by the 18th green, 65 feet from the flag), won by Stadler.

  • Lefty/Righty Chip Shot, from behind the green, 35' away, won by Stadler.

The total purse of $10,000 was distributed as:

  • 1st Place ($3,000) --> Craig Stadler

  • 2nd Place ($2,500) --> Peter Jacobsen

  • 3rd Place ($2,000) --> Chip Beck

  • 4th Place ($1,500) --> Phil Mickelson

  • 5th Place ($1,000) --> Scott Simpson
