- Tiger Attraction: There were more people following Tiger Woods
than the leaders. What else is new? I don'thave the numbers (yet),
but the crowds of Thursday and Friday are greater, by far, than in
previous years. This weekend parking and getting to La Costa will
be a challenge. Patience ...
- Followed Tom Watson again from the 11th (birdie) through 17th (par).
Today he birdied #8, #9, #10, #11, missed a 4-footer for birdie on
#12, birdied #13, lipped out a 15-footer on #14, birdie #15 ...
I tell you, it's a real pleasure see Tom Watson hit the ball. His only
two bad drives in the back nine were on #16 (hook, bogey) and #17 (
push, par).
- Shot of the Day: Jim Furyk -- holed a 138-yard 8-iron for
eagle on 17th.
- Excerpts from the post-round press conferences:
- Davis Love III: No time off during the off season.
Spend time working on his wedge play, trying to take his hands out
of his game. Putted a lot better in the back nine today (than he did
yesterday).
- Tiger Woods: Played well. A good solid round to get
back into the tournament. Greens were still soft, so foot prints
show. Their speed was consistent. He likes his mom to follow him
when he plays ("it's cool"), but doesn't like her to stay with him
while he's on the road.
- Tom Lehman: Played better today (than yesterday),
but scored one stroke worse. Took time off after the Diners matches,
(12/15) so he didn't have many expectations coming here. There is a
lot of peace in his game. He's enjoying playing.
