Two of the three "slayers" of top-seed players won again. John Cook
disposed of Lee Westwood 1-up in one of seven matches featuring US players
against "rest-of-the-world" players. Kevin Sutherland beat Paul
McGinley 2&1 on another one. Of those seven matches US players prevailed
in six.
Nick Price stopped Tiger Slayer Peter O'Malley 2&1. The
only top-10 players still in the tournament are #4 seeded Sergio Garcia,
who defeated Charles Howell III 1-up, and #6 seeded David Toms winner
over Rocco Mediate 1-up.
Four of the 16 players remaining in the field are non-Americans: Nick Price from Zimbawe, Niclas Fasth from Sweden, and Spaniards Sergio Garcia and José María Olazábal who eventually might meet in an all-Spanish championship match. All four are facing American players. |
