Welcome to the San Diego Golf Pages

San Diego, the sixth largest city in the United States and where California was born, is now one of the premier golf destinations in the country and in the world. The beautiful year-round temperate weather provides perfect days for golf in all four seasons.

San Diego and the surrounding area features over 80 golf courses. The variety in design includes layouts to satisfy the taste of any golfer. Desert golf courses are typical of East County, whereas tree-lined and links style golf courses in San Diego are predominant closer to the coast. Coronado Golf Course and Torrey Pines Golf Course are the only courses bordering the Pacific Ocean, and provide for astounding views and the challenge of the sea breeze. San Diego golf courses carved along canyons are characterized by dramatic changes in elevation and the daily variations of the wind make club selection and playability even more difficult.

The City of San Diego is the host of the Buick Invitational Championship, a PGA TOUR event that takes place every January or February at Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course. Torrey Pines South Course hosted the U.S. OPEN Championship in June 2008. Other prestigious San Diego golf tournaments hosted by the city are the San Diego City Golf Amateur Championships (Men's and Women's) in June, and the Junior World Golf Championships in July.  In July 1998, Torrey Pines hosted the USGA Public Links Championship. It was the first time this event was held in Southern California.  Although the Accenture World Match Play Championship has now moved on to Tucson, Arizona, for many years this tournament was held just a few miles north of Torrey Pines in Carlsbad at the La Costa Resort and Spa. This is the first event in the World Championship Series and features the top-64 players in the World Ranking. . La Costa Resort and Spa used to be the home of the Mercedes Championships, the first tournament of the PGA TOUR season which included the tournament winners of the previous season. This tournament has moved to Hawaii.
