One of the aspects of the great game of golf is that it can bring together different generations in the same foursome. This game can be played by people of virtually any age, and teach a thing or two about life to all of us in the process. Several courses in the San Diego area offer Senior and Junior rates for weekday play and few on weekends too. However, here I would like to highlight those courses that really cater allowing you to play golf with your children, and to have fun while at it. I begin with two courses that I recognize as children-friendly . I am sure there are more courses like these two in the area, and I'll be glad to mention them as they are pointed out to me. I just happen to know these two from my own experience and their advertising. The first course is the University City Golf Course . It's located off Interstate-805, at the Governor Drive exit. It features 9 holes, and its par is 27. Most holes are about 100 yards long or less, except one "monster" hole, the 6th, which measures 140 yards. The greens are slow and grainy, so they are not comparable to other fancier courses, but they are still fun. The 9th green is located far away from the clubhouse, so to get back you can either walk off the course onto the street and back, or you can walk the course backwards, being watchful for errant shots from other players, until you are back to the first tee. I have played this course quite a few times in family outings, including my three and a half year-old. It's rarely crowded and very walkable. Rental clubs are available as well as a soda vending machine. The second course I would like to mention here is Sun Valley Golf Course. Johnny and Mary Jane Gonzales along with their longtime Partner and Friend Barry Mahlberg have been dedicated to introducing and teaching the game of golf to children and teenagers in San Diego for many, many years. Johnny and Barry, both accomplished PGA players and Instructors, have been involved with San Diego's Junior Golf Programs for many years. Under their Leadership and Management, the Sun Valley Golf Course is the perfect golf course in San Diego for boys and girls and their families to learn and enjoy the game of golf.
