DECEMBER 1997 Oops! Correction (from November's news): The club will go non-metal spikes for its tournaments. It'll be gradual: it is suggested that club members wear non-metal spikes shoes starting with the January 1998 tournament. It'll be mandatory that club members wear non-metal spikes shoes starting with the APRIL 1998 tournament. Thursday Match-Play Team: There will be a qualifying tournament at Rancho San Diego (Ivanhoe) on December 8th, 9:00am. Call Keith Cheney or Max Smith for details.

NOVEMBER 1997 A brief summary of this month's General Meeting: Board members were elected/re-elected. New officers were elected at the 11/24 monthly board meeting. The club will go non-metal spikes for its tournaments. It'll be gradual: it is suggested that club members wear non-metal spikes shoes starting with the January 1998 tournament. It'll be mandatory that club members wear non-metal spikes shoes starting with the June 1998 tournament. It was long overdue: there will be a tournament to honor and acknowledge Flo & Grady Sanderson. The 1998 Club Championships will be played in August, instead of October. The courses will be in better condition, and there will be more daylight so the last few groups of the qualifying rounds won't have to finish in darkness.  Thursday Tournaments: Schedule Changes! - Due to inclement weather, the Turkey Shoot was moved to 11/20, and the 11/20 Regular Sweeps was moved to 12/4. The tee times for both tournaments remain as originally scheduled. Next sign-up will be on 11/20 for the 12/11 tournament. The sign-up for the Christmas Scramble (12/18) will be on 12/4. TPMGC (Thursday Team) will play against Steele Canyon, Miramar, and San Clemente. Our team will consist of 16 players and 2 alternates. Interested members who fulfill the requirements detailed below are invited to sign up. The sign-up sheet is posted on the board in the club's lounge. Prospective players must be 21 years old, at least one year active members of the club, and with a Low Index no higher than 18.4 . Players of the home team will pay for greens fees (practice AND competition rounds), and lunch for the players of the visiting team. There will be a qualifying round on a weekday in December to select the team out of the players on the sign-up list. Previous match-play performance will be taken into consideration. OCTOBER 1997 The next club General Meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 12th at 7pm in the lounge at Torrey Pines. There will be drinks, the usual raffle and ELECTION of seven board members to serve a 2-year period. John Walter will give a briefing on the courses' condition and discuss Torrey-related topics. Your attendance as a club member will be appreciated. It's your chance to get your word in about club and Torrey matters, and to elect who you think will do good work for the club.

AUGUST 1997 SCGA 1997 Better Ball Championship: The first round was played on 8/19. In the Southern Regional tournament Mike Blais and Steve Cecchin, representing the TPMGC finished in second place with a 59. The round was played at the Vista Valley Country Club. Callaway finished in first place, with a 58. Our players advance to the finals on September 22nd & 23rd at Bear Creek Country Club. TPMGC congratulates Mike and Steve for their tremendous effort !!!

JUNE 1997 SCGA Better-Ball: The overall winners of the Sunday edition were Thomas McShane and Mike Salas with a net score of 127. The Low Gross team was Don Rickman and Scott Stewart with 140. In the Thursday edition, Michael Blais and Steve Cecchin were the overall winners with 120, while Bill Morris and David Swank won the Low-Gross with 144. Finally, Blais-Cecchin (63) beat McShane-Salas (65) in an 18-hole playoff and will represent the club in the SCGA Better-Ball Championship finals. City Amateur: The following TPMGC members finished in the top-10 in their respective handicap flights: Championship Flight: Victor Zayas (4th), John Hoffman (6th), Mike Riley (9th). First Flight: Barry Elliott (2nd), Ron Bruck (6th) Third Flight: Rich Silber (5th), Dan Groszkruger (6th) Sixth Flight: Jake Johnson (1st !!)
